Portland

First female mayor (Dorothy McCullough Lee) elected in 1948. Two more women have served in the office since.

First female mayor (Anne Rudin) elected in 1983.

San Francisco

Dianne Feinstein became San Francisco's first female mayor in 1978 following the assassination of Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk. The following year, she was elected to the first of two four-year terms.
